annotated bibliography
I am a bit nervous about this essay. I have never done a annotated bibliography before, I do think it will be a good learning experience. I don’t think I will understand how to do it fully until I try it a couple of times.

Methotrexate
Psoriasis can be defined by the American Heritage Dictionary as “ a skin disease marked by recurring inflammation and scaly patches” (p 677.) This disease affects every race, men, women, children and even the elderly. Even though psoriasis affects everyone it is thought that it affects Caucasians more than any other race. This skin disorder will affect that person for the rest of his or her life. There since has yet to be a cure for this skin disease. Many patients who get psoriasis may also get arthritis.
Psoriasis is an inflammatory disease which certain immune cells become over active (www.sicus.sirus.com) To probably diagnose the disorder a dermatologist may need to take a skin biopsy (www.sicus.sirus.com) . Psoriasis affects two to three percent of the population in America (pg 9 100 questions and answers about psoriasis.) Some things that can trigger psoriasis to become inflamed or get worse is stress, injury to skin, certain medicine, allergies, diet, and weather (National Psoriasis Foundation.) Some patients may say that warm weather may help them. Cold weather affects the psoriasis because it can make it chapped and dry out your skin. When a person skin gets worse a lot of patients may become depressed. They may not want to leave their house because of the staring and this may cause them to get into a deeper depression.
Methotrexate was first used in 1958 (P. 238 Camisa.) Like most drugs you need to evaluate your values. Some of the values may be cost, side affects, how do I take it?, is there any danger in taking it while I’m pregnant. This drug is used to suppress the immune system. It can be taken orally or injected into the skin. Like any other medication you may experience some side affects like nausea, fatigue, etc (P. 238 Camisa.) Methotrexate may be the cheapest drug out on the market, if you do not have health insurance. The cost of the drug is around $50 dollars. Since the drug affects your liver you will need to get your blood drawn. This can be as high as $75 dollars.
Some may argue that Methotrexate should not be taken. Patients who take this drug have to get a liver biopsy because Methotrexate may cause liver disease. Also, you cant’ take any anti-inflammatory aspirins because it will cause toxicity (p. 67 Lowe.) People who drink should not take this medication since; alcohol is generally associated with liver disease. Since the drug generally affects the liver, doctors will need to monitor your liver by doing a liver biopsy (Long, Kerhole, etc.) When the patient decides he or she does not want to take the drug anymore, their psoriasis may become worse. Women/Men should not take this medication if they are trying to conceive a child. This should stop taking it for at least three months.
I have taken Methotrexate on and off for the past two years. It has significantly helped me in many ways. Not only did it help me with my skin but it has helped me with my self confidence. People do not stare at my skin. I do not have a problem with people asking about my skin but it does get tiring after a while. Even though I have many options for other drugs, this one is the cheapest. I had been told by my doctor that Embrel and other drugs may be as expensive as $1500 a month. One draw back I do not like is that I have to get blood test almost every month.

University of North Carolina student body president

I think that everyone has to be careful. If she was outside at night by herself she should have been aware of her surroundings. Also, she could have had others with her. I am glad that they caught the people that may have killed her. In some ways they were “stupid” because they used her ATM card, which they can track you. As a college student I do believe if I am going out late to be careful and watch for any strange activity. You can be afraid to go out but I think I am going to be more aware of the people around me no matter if its late at night or during the day. I think that if someone does not feel comfortable going places alone they need to buy pepper spray and a cell phone. Also they need to park close enough to were there going or park under the parking lights.

Just because he was a governor does not mean you won’t get caught doing things you should not be doing. Gov. Spitzer has a lot of responsibility and its probably for the best that he does resign. As I watched the news this past week some reporters argued that he was a good governor. It almost makes him look like a hypocrite because he cracked down on prostitution but he was caught in a sting. I am sure that his wife and kids are upset. I could then see how some might get upset of this because this is his personal life and if he cant be faithful to his wife, that doesn’t mean he cant do his job

Dear Judi Villa and Casey Newton:
After reading your article “Phoenix chief at odds with Gordon” is a well informed article I do not think you should have added “Harris: chasing migrants would drain resources.” In one article you think it’s a good idea that migrants should call the police if they see suspects activity but in the next article you talk about arresting them. To me if I was a migrant I would not call the police if I read this article. I do agree with Mayor Phil Gordon on some aspects of Operations Order 1.4, which was mentioned in the article. I think that some Police officers may racially profile some communities like the Hispanic community over any other community. Also, if the police do deicide to use Operations Order 1.4, then no “illegal immigrant” will use the police department.
In the article you mention Officer Nick Erfle. Yes, the person who shot the officer was here undocumented but I do not believe Harris should say that all illegal immigrants will kill police officers. Some truly want to come to this county to make a better life for them and their families. At one moment of time we all came here illegally. They should not pigeon hold every person that comes to America as being illegal.
As I continue to read the article I find it very informative of how Phoenix Police Department is becoming different from all other Police Departments. The article mentions Operations Order 1.4 once again. The article continues to discuss how Tucson police are asking what people’s immigration status is. I think that we do need to crack down on illegal immigration but we do not need to pull over random cars that they suspect to be illegal. Officer Joanna Abad was very insightful when saying that they cannot asked anyone to talk about a murder they saw if they think they will be deported. He also said that asking someone about there status is not doing there job.
When reading about immigrant being arrested I think I became more aware of the police departments dilemma with immigration. What kind of choice do you make; either put them on a bus and take them to Mexico or put them in jail? If you take them back to the county their from there’s the possibility they make come back or you put them in jail and valuable tax money is being spent on them that could be going to schools, etc.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Davis

something new
This blog is a redo because the other one was not expectable for what my teacher wanted. I think this is going to be a new learning experience for everyone. I think that if someone does not put anything too personal on here, you will be ok. I am excited because I have never done this before and I will try it out and I am sure as the months go on I will get better at this.
